At Abraham Lincoln High School, our Student Conduct and Policies are designed to foster a safe, respectful, and productive learning environment for everyone. These guidelines ensure that all students understand their rights and responsibilities, promoting a positive school culture.
Student Conduct and Policies
Daily school attendance is crucial for student success. Under Pennsylvania law, all students aged six to eighteen must attend school regularly. We emphasize the importance of excused absences for legitimate reasons (e.g., healthcare appointments, family emergencies) and require written notes within three days of a student’s return. Unexcused absences can lead to truancy, and the school works with families to provide support and address attendance concerns proactively to avoid further intervention.
Our school is committed to a safe and inclusive environment free from bullying, harassment, and discrimination. These behaviors, whether electronic, written, verbal, nonverbal, psychological, or physical, are not tolerated. We have clear definitions for each and established procedures for reporting incidents through various channels, including an online form, a bullying hotline (215-400-SAFE), or directly to school staff. All complaints are thoroughly investigated, and appropriate supportive measures or disciplinary actions are taken to ensure a positive educational experience for all.
The School District of Philadelphia’s Code of Conduct outlines the behavioral expectations for all students. Violations of this code may result in interventions, including suspensions or referrals for disciplinary hearings. Suspensions, which can last up to ten days, are implemented for grades three through twelve for Code of Conduct violations, with specific limitations for younger students. For serious or repeated violations, students may be referred to the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities for a formal hearing, ensuring a fair and consistent approach to maintaining school order.
