Abraham Lincoln High School, located in Northeast Philadelphia, has a rich history rooted in the community it serves. While its cornerstone was laid in 1949, the school’s journey began with initial plans to name it Mayfair High School. However, due to opposition from other surrounding neighborhoods, the decision was made to name the school after the 16th U.S. President, Abraham Lincoln. This change was met with some initial negative reception from Mayfair residents, but the name ultimately stuck, establishing the school as a significant institution in the area.
The school officially opened its doors, with dedication ceremonies taking place around 1951. Over the decades, Abraham Lincoln High School has educated generations of Philadelphia students, providing them with a foundation for their futures. In 2009, the school’s current campus opened, continuing its legacy of serving the educational needs of the community.
